Cedric Villani (born 1973). Portrait of the French mathematician Cedric Villani watching sand passing through an hourglass. Villani works primarily on partial differential equations and mathematical physics. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 2010. He is a professor at the University of Lyon and has been the director of Institut Henri Poincare in Paris, France, since 2009.
