The Vixigueiros (bladder carriers) are the traditional masks from Samede (San Xoán de Vigo, Paderne). Also known as Contrarios, they wear a variety of costumes with masks made from sackcloth, cardboard, or leaves and wicker. Although their origins are ancient and they had disappeared for a time, they have been recently revived to once again accompany the Carolos and the Bonitos, the other traditional masks of the area, with the Vixigueiros acting as their counterparts.
