He was instructor in the Seminaries of Danville and Shelbyville,and at the latter place was given his first license to preach the gospel. Witha view of preparing himself more fully for the ministry, he entered theOhio Wesleyan University at Delaware, graduating therefrom in 1859, andthe same year he entered the Illinois Annual Conference of the MethodistEpiscopal Church.
