It is simpleenough to measure the mandible of ahuman skull, but to get the exact meas-urements of the living human subject is quite another matter. It is surprisingto see the marked difference in the meas-urements of the triangles of the jaws ofdifferent patients who present themselves Fig. for artificial dentures. Not long ago, there came to my office a lady whosemandibular triangle measured three andone-half inches, and only recently apatient presented whose triangle meas-ured almost five and one-half unreasonable and unscientific itwould be to make artificial dentures foreither of these cases upon an articulatorwhich would allow for but a four-inchmeasurement. 270 THE DENTAL COSMOS. Faulty articulation of dentures is ex-hibited in the mouth more often becausethe models upon which the dentures weremade were incorrectly set upon the ar-ticulator, than owing to any other dentures, made to articulateat a certain distance from the joint ofthe articulator, will not articulate at alesser or greater distance when the biteis raised or lowered, or the distance fromincisors to joints is changed. This isillustrated very graphically in Figs. 2and 3. Fig. 2 illustrates the case of a Fig. 4.
