Gros Horloge ('Great Clock') astronomical clock. Part of the 14th-century Gothic belfry in Roen, Normandy, France, this clock was first installed in 1409, with the current clock dating from the 1520s. A single pointer (with the Sun in the background) moves past Roman numerals indicating the hour. The sphere at top indicates the phase of the Moon. The dark blue circular surround is dotted with stars, while at the base of the dial a rotary shows different scenes daily (planetary allegories). The lamb at the end of the pointer signifies the local wool trade. Recent restoration projects took place in 1997 and from 2003 to 2006.
