Blue sky white clouds portrait ornate lamp-posts rising roadside Krakowskie Przedmiescie to Holy Cross Church, Warsaw, Poland
The Baroque architecture Holy Cross Church (Kosciol Swietego Krzyza) was completed in 1757. In 1882 an urn containing the heart of composer, Frederic Chopin was immured in a pillar inside the church. A sculpture of Christ Bearing His Cross was added to the external staircase leading to the church's main entrance in 1889. The church, severely damage by two German Goliath tracked mines during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, was blown-up by the Germans in January 1945 and re-built 1945-1953. In the background of the shot stands the Staszic Palace, built in the neo-classical style 1820-1823, damaged during the Siege of Warsaw in 1939, demolished during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising and re-built 1946-1950. The Palace is now the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
