WARREN Marburg also gives an interesting description of the develop-ment of the suprapineal recess in man which is illustrated infigure 96. According to his description, the suprapineal recessis formed by the dorsal reflection of the taenia which originallywas directed cephalad. The dorsal surface of the taenia secon-darily becomes fused with the dorsal surface of the pineal glandwhile the ventral surface is turned dorsad. In this way thesuprapineal recess results from a deep evagination of the roof-. The suprapinealrecess in its relation to the pineal gland in adult man is shown infigure 97. With reference to the pineal body Mai-burg maintains that inspite of all the involution processes in the gland, it cannot bedenied that even up to the late periods of life in man there arcwholly intact glandular cells present in the organ which mustbe taken to indicate a still existing function.
