An officer's sword,United States,circa 1840 Slender blade with a lenticular cross-section. Fine decorative etching on both sides showing the American eagle amid vine ornamentation. Manufacturer's inscription etched on one side "Watkins,7 Little Argylls,Regent St. London." Finely engraved and chiselled gilded brass hilt. The guard plate bears an eagle in relief. A cartouche of George Washington(?)on the knucklebow. Bone grip cover with carved feather decoration and a eagle head pommel.
