Khufu Oversees Construction of His Pyramid


The Great Pyramid on Egypt's Giza Plateau was constructed as the tomb for the powerful Old Kingdom ruler Khufu (sometimes spelled Cheops), who ruled Egypt for approximately 23 years from c. 2551 to 2528 This illustration dates to around 1900 and reflects the beliefs of many at the time that slaves had been forced to build the pyramids.
