Kurinji shrub which grows abundantly on the mountains of South India and blossoms with purple-blue flowers once in twelve years.


Acanthaceae genus has over 300 varieties all over the world, of which India has over 50 species of kurunji plant. The blooming shades of flowers vary from pinkish white to pale violet. Neelakurinji flower of South India is purple-blue. Kurinji is a solitary shrub and only grows on mountains where there are no trees.
