St Columba's Bay, S end of Iona: traditionally Columba's first landing-place on Iona in 563 with 12 companions in a skin-covered boat (currach). The L (E) beach is known as Port na Curaich (harbour of the skin-covered boat), the nearer, central grassy mound is said to perpetuate the boat's shape & size. The R (W) beach is Port an Fhir-bhreige (harbour of the false man, named after a distinctive rock) where pilgrims have built devotional pebble cairns.
