In all patriotic objectsconcerning either his native country or the Governmentof the United States, he has been a tireless worker. Hisentire life has been marked by thorough executiveability, earnest activity and enterprise. Associated with the Monument enterprise from thefirst and connected with the Commission since its organ-ization as its permanent Secretary, Captain Levi has been in close touch with all the work thathas been done. The records of the endeavors of thefifteen years that the Commission has been in exist-ence, placed in black and white by him, are voluminousand complete. The main portion of the history of theenterprise is contained within the covers of one hugevolume, but aside from this there has been an immenseamount of other clerical work. Captain Bauder was born in the Forest City on Janu-ary 28, 1840. His early life was uneventful. Heattended the public schools, and was graduated fromthe Central High School in 1858.
