A rod licence is required by anyone over the age of 12 using a rod and line to fish for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt or eels in England (except the River Tweed), Wales or the Border Esk region of Scotland. A licence currently (October 2014) costs £27 pa or £ for a 1 day licence (excluding Salmon and Sea trout).
