(July 31, 2017) - Sailors assigned to Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1630, deployed from USS Anchorage (LPD 23), and Soldiers from the 244th Engineer Company of the Oregon Army National Guard, practice loading and deploying a High-Mobility Engineer Excavator (HMEE) over a landing ramp at Newport, Ore. during a Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA) demonstration. The DSCA exercise is a combined effort between local emergency responders, the National Guard and the Navy, designed to simulate domestic response efforts, across all levels of government, to a catastrophic disaster
