A French street artist painting in Paris in 1962. This activity centred on The Place du Tertre, a square in Montmartre. Here the emphasis is very much on producing work aimed at the tourist trade. Place du Tertre was opened to the public in 1635 as Montmartre village central square. From the end of the 18th century it became the centre of Parisian Bohemian life. With artists setting up their easels each day for the tourists, the lively square still retains some of that atmosphere. This image is from a tourist’s old amateur 35mm colour transparency – a vintage 1960s photograph.

It will look soft if used at too large a size – a vintage 1960s photograph.
