The Gymnogene, or African Harrier-Hawk, is an unusal raptor and may represent a link beteeen Accipiters and Buteo (buzzard) families. Highly excitable when hunting in its unusual and ungainly fashion the skin of the nares, cere and legs flushes from the relaxed state of yellow to pink or even bright red.
