Athlete's foot, the commonest form of ringworm, medical name tinea pedis, showing a ten day old infection between the toes. The infection formed blisters which subsequently burst. Ringworm is a fungal infecton of the surface of the skin, particularly the scalp (tinea capitis) and feet. It is caused by various species of fungi including Microsporum, Trichophyton & Epidermophyton. It is highly contagious and is spread by direct contact or via infected material. Ringworm is treated with an antifungal agent.
