Amyloidosis. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through tissue with abnormal deposoits of amyloid protein (green). Amyloidosis is a disorder where deposits of amyloid (a glycoprotein) in body organs can threaten healthy function. The deposits can arise from several diseases or from a primary immune system disorder. The treatment will depend upon the underlying cause, but the symptoms of heart and kidney failure may also need to be treated.
