One of a thousand contract rifles supplied by St. Louis gunmaker and retailer Horace E. Dimick to Birge's Western Sharpshooters--later the Western Sharpshooters, 14th Missouri Infantry, and then later redesignated the 66th Illinois Infantry--during the Civil War.
