Gill-rakers moderately long, 15on lower part of anterior arch. Dorsal 10; spines increasing in lengthto the last, which measures f or i length of head ; longest soft rays § or | length ofhead. Pectoral pointed, a little shorter than head. Ventral reaching vent. Anal. Trematocara marginatum. See p. 192. III. 7-8 ; third spine longest, a little shorter than last dorsal spine. Caudal feeblyemarginate. Caudal peduncle \h times as long as deep. Scales with finely den- ticulate border, 37-40, lat. I, 25—29 Pale brownish above, silvery 9—10- 13—17 beneath ; a blackish opercular spot; dorsal and anal edged with black ; 4 or 5 blackbars across the caudal; young with black bars across the dorsal. Total length, no millim. Described from several specimens from Kalambo.
