The Knoblauchhaus, a house in Rococo style that survived the war It was built in 1759-1761 as the residence for Johann Christian Knoblauch, whose family owned the house until 1929, when it was sold to the city of Berlin. The facade received a neoclassical makeover in the early nineteenth century. The Nikolaiviertel occupies the area where Berlin was first founded in the early thirteenth century. It is a reconstruction of buildings of the the old historic area of the city.
