Depths. 16 to 32 Feet. 32 Feet und upwards. 6 Miles. it is not disposed in the direction of the main fluvial axis, the Brazilian Parana receives the most numerous and the most copious affluents from the watershed near the Atlantic, and has a much longer course than the Paraguay branch. In this respect the Parana occupies a position in the Plate system analogous to that of the Missouri in the Mississippi basin. Of the numerous headwaters of the Parana the most important are the Corumba, the San Marcos or the Paranahyba, but it would he difficult to say which of these has the best claim to be regarded as the main branch.
