Human hand, schlieren image. Schlieren photography is an imaging technique that is used to show changes in the density of fluids and gases such as air, caused here by the warmth of the hand. This image shows the thermal boundary layer surrounding a human hand and the plume of warm air that it sheds, due to the fact that the skin is warmer than the surrounding air.
