Hip ligaments. Computer artwork of a posterior oblique view of the hip bones and ligaments (white). At upper right the lumbar spine ends in the sacrum and coccyx (tailbone). Either side are the large ear-shaped fused hip bones of the pelvis. These articulate with the head of the femurs (thigh bones) to form the hip joints. The joint surfaces are covered in a form of hyaline cartilage (white) that protects the bone surface from wear and tear. Partially seen are the iliofemoral ligament and the pubofemoral ligament, with some ligaments removed to show underlying details.
