International Space Station (ISS) astronauts, backup crew for Expedition 54-55, (from left): US astronaut Jeanette Epps of NASA, Russian cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev of Roscosmos and German astronaut Alexander Gerst of the European Space Agency. This trio, sitting in front of the flags of their respective countries, are also the prime Expedition 56-57 crew. The patches at lower centre on their spacesuits indicate that they are a backup crew. Neither Epps nor Prokopyev had yet flown in space. Epps was replaced on the Expedition 56-57 crew by her backup Serena Aunon-Chancellor. Prokopyev made his first flight on Expedition 56-57. Gerst was ISS Commander for Expedition 57, his second space flight. Photographed on 26 July 2017.
