Closeup of nudibranch / sea slug (Hypselodoris nigrostriata) laying eggs on a shell, Gulf of Oman, Indian Ocean, Arabian Peninsula, Middle East, color

Nudibranchs are sea slugs whose gills are on the exterior of the body (the circlet of orange plumes in this photo), and most are vivid colors. They are simultaneous hermaphrodites, so both partners fertilize eggs and have their eggs fertilized when mating. Both partners then lay eggs afterward. They are far more numerous in the Indian and Pacific Oceans than in the Atlantic.
