The number of seed houses is increas- ing faster than is the number of capable assistants. The Fort Bragg Growers' Association, Fort Bragg, Cal., recently received four tons of peas from San Francisco, the crop to go to the local cannery. Seed selling along the Atlantic sea- board suffered an interruption April 3 by the heaviest snow that ever has vis- ited that section so late in the season. The southern seedsmen liave about reached the end of a highly successful season. The movement for the diversi- fication of crops was greatly to their advantage. Quite recuperated by the healthful climate of southwestern Texas, S. F. Leonard, of the Leonard Seed Co., Chi- cago, expects to resume his duties at the oflSce about April 9 or 10. Fire April 1 destroyed the building of Hardin, Hamilton & Lewman, Inc., at 218 Second street, Louisville, Ky. The loss on the seed concern's build- ing and that of N. M. Uri & Co., liquor dealers, adjoining is estimated at $140,000. The seed business, generally speaking is good, although the recurrence of cold oeriods every few days has a marked ten- dency to hold things back.
