Vitamin K1, molecular model. Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) is an essential nutrient that humans are unable to produce and need to obtain from their diet. It is found in dark leafy vegetables, meat, dairy products and eggs. Vitamin K is necessary for blood clotting, so a deficiency can lead to uncontrolled internal bleeding, and mineral deposits on cartilage and on the inner walls of blood vessels. Vitamin K1's chemical formula is C31H46O2. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (C, grey), hydrogen (H, turquoise) and oxygen (O, red).
