Shiite Muslims covered in their own blood commemorate the Day of Ashura and take part in self-flagellation in Nabatieh, Lebanon. Ashura Day is an annual festival amongst the Shi'ite Muslim community that mourns the death of Imam Husayn. In Nabatieh (also spelled as Nabatiyeh, Nabatiye) some adherents take part in self-flagellation and cut their foreheads with traditional swords and knives. Some faint after losing too much blood.
