Charred pillars and memorial to Arthur Stephenson Rook at St Martin le Grand Church, Coney Street, York, Yorkshire, UK

St Martin's was burned out, except for the south aisle and tower, in the second world war Baedeker raids. After the rebuilding, the church was re-hallowed in 1968, by the Archbishop of York, and serves as 'a shrine of remembrance for all who died in the two world wars, a chapel of peace and reconciliation between nations and between men'.
