SAN DIEGO (May 15, 2017) Amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) transits the San Diego Bay in preparation to pulling in port. Makin Island, flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is returning to its homeport of San Diego following a seven-month deployment to the Pacific, Middle East, and the Horn of Africa.
