TAYLOR, Elmina Shepherd, presi-dent of the Young Womens MutualImprovement Association from 1880. to 1904, was born Sept. 12, 1830, inMiddlefield, Otsego Co., New York,the daughter of David S. Shepherd and Rozella Bailey. She was baptizedJuly 5, 1856, educated in the publicschools and the Hardwick Academyin New York, and while teachingschool in Haverstraw she heard theGospel and accepted it. On Aug. 31,1856, she was married to George Ham-ilton Taylor, and on April 15, 1859,she with her husband started by oxteam for Utah, arriving there in Sep-tember. They settled in the 14thWard, Salt Lake City, and in thatward Sister Taylor served as secre-tary of the Relief Society and presi-dent of the Y. L. M. I. A. For 16years she was a member of the presi-dency of the Salt Lake Stake ReliefSociety Board. On June 19, 1880, shewas appointed general president ofY. L. M. I. A. She attended severalconventions of the National Councilof
