SUNARMA gave him a number of modern bee-hives, and he now cultivates honey in both traditional and modern hives. The modern ones deliver 10 kgs of honey, twice the yield of the traditional ones. "I get about 85 kgs of honey each year and I can sell the honey for 80 birr per kg. Honey has improved the livelihood of my family. "Before I only had one ox, now I’ve been able to buy another. I was able to get electricity by paying 4,000 birr to the authorities. Now the children can study at night. We don’t need to burn kerosene which damages our eyes. Sumarma has offered to find a wider market for the honey as I struggle to sell it all locally. "I have shown others how to do this and now 18 other peasants in the association are doing honey too."
