The rocky shoreline and calm sea of Morecambe Bay at Silverdale, Carnforth, Lancashire, England on a summer evening in July. Morecambe Bay, a large sandy bay in North West England reaches from Walney Island in the North, to Fleetwood in the South, is the largest continuous intertidal area in the whole of Britain and has more than 5% of the UK's total area of saltmarsh. It is the second largest bay in the UK ( only The Wash is bigger). At Silverdale, the road from the village runs down to a small car park on the beach, where visitors come to relax, walk, swim, picnic and enjoy the area, its coastal views and wildlife. It is overlooked by a terrace of shoreline cottages where local inhabitants and holidaymakers reside.
