The fibers of the internal obliqueand transversalis muscles are parted—not cut—in the same line as the struc-tures above. A blurt retractor^4 inch wide is then inserted and the muscle drawn toward the rredian exposes the transversalis fascia and peritoneum posteriorly, which atethen also divided.
