. American engineer and railroad journal . of interference. Proposed Uncoupling Attachment.—It is the belief of thecommittee, based on the replies to the circular of inquiry and onthe investigation made, that considerable trouble from inopera-tive attachments is due, first, to not taking into consideration, when designing, all the various elements necessary for efficiencyin operation and repairs; and second, a lack of proper attentionto maintenance after application. It is believed that for allclasses of cars and for all couplers which come under the B. Standards a single ended rod properly designed is themost suitable arrangement not covered by patents that can beused. Acting on this, changes are suggested in M. C. B. SheetB, which it is thought will overcome the defects in design andreduce to a minimum the troubles incident to improper main-tenance ; this is shown on Sheets 1 and 2. The special feature of this uncoupling attachment is the slot-ted center bracket, which has been in use on a number of roads ; Iwa, Lr^.s.
