The big mail-order seed houses have al- most abandoned the big general magazines as a means of getting inquiries for cata- logues. The January magazines carry scarcely any seed trade advertising and only a little is ordered for February. LOS ANGELES SEED SITUATION. All the seedsmen report business opening up well, though the dry De- cember and the holidays checked the demand somewhat. Most of the seeds- men here handle nursery stock and advance orders for oranges are excep- tionally good, according to C. Winsel. Aggeler & Musser say their fall plantings were considerably delayed by drought, but opened up with a jump at the new year. This progressive firm notes a big increase in business and in- quiries to date are largely in excess of previous years, especially for their spe- cialties in peas and muskmelons. The Germain Seed & Plant Co. has completely remodeled its store inside and out, and M, L. Germain, who has recently taken an active lead in the business, has systematized and im- proved the office end. The West Coast Seed House has moved from its old location on "Winston street to 116-118 East Seventh. Theodore Payne and the Morris & Snow Seed Co.
