Sug-gesting to Leverett the probability of the discovery ofmoraines where the beaches disappeared, moraines werelooked for and found by Leverett, and their relation to thebeaches stated (Fig. 131). In New York Fairchild1 is at work on the early stagesof the glacier-dammed lakes; and by his studies he hasproved the existence of numerous small lakes, with southernoutlets, before their waters were united to cause the largerglacial lakes described by Bull.
