PORT HUENEME, Calif (Aug. 3, 2018) – Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) Commander Vince Fonte (left), executive officer (acting), and Kail Macias (right), NAVFAC EXWC technical director, present award certificates to Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) Logistics interns James Byrne (second from left), Alessandro Guaresti (center), and Cole Morter (second from right), in recognition of their winning research and presentation at the Problem-based Initiatives for Powerful Engagement and Learning In Naval Engineering and Science (PIPELINES) final presentations and Design Challenge Awards held at the Seabee Museum at Naval Base Ventura County. The team researched and presented Modernizing Navy Resource Allocation and Distribution Logistics, and was mentored by Mr. Colin Hathaway, data analysis manager at NSWC PHD. Six student teams participated this year’s challenge. The PIPELINES program is made possible by a 3-year Office of Naval Research grant, initiated in 2016, to develop real-world engineering and science solutions to ongoing Naval issues.
