Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of green alga (Tetraselmis sp.). Tetraselmis is a marine, motile phytoplankton that has 4 flagella. It has very high lipid levels and also contains natural amino acids that stimulate feeding by other marine animals. It is used as a food source for feeding marine crustaceans, especially shrimp and molluscs. Tetraselmis chuii is a species that contains 10% lipid and is used to produce biodiesel. Magnification: x2,400 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
