The roots grow remarkably uniform and smooth, being always well formed, and of large size I and deep orange color. The roots grow very regular and smooth; they are of good size, being from ten to twelve inches in length and two to three inches in diameter at the top, taper- ing gradually from the shoulder to the tip of the root. This new carrot comes from France and is a decided advance in shape, as shown in the illustration. It is intermediate as to length between the half long varieties (such as Dan- vers) and the Short Horn Carrot, but much thicker than the latter, attaining at the top from three to four inches in diameter.
