New York Stock Exchange building, NYSE, Wall Street, Financial District, Manhattan, New York City, New York State, USA

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the largest stock market in the world in monetary volume and the first in number of affiliated companies. Its share volume surpassed that of the NASDAQ [1] during the 1990s, but the capital of companies listed on the NYSE is five times greater than on the NASDAQ. The New York Stock Exchange has an annual trading volume of $36 trillion, including $12 trillion from companies. It was created in 1792, when a group of stockbrokers organized themselves into a committee called the "New York Stock and Trade." Exchange Board" (NYS&EB) in order to control the flow of shares that, in those times, were traded freely and mainly on the sidewalk of Wall Street.
