One of the 108 tree stems, erected to honour the dead people in Bhutan, with the name of the dead person inscribed on it.

In Bhutanese culture, when people die their families erect 108 freshly cut tree stems in open fields or on the hills and put prayer flags on the stems. The flags are flown to help the dead find the right path in their next life. The photographs shows one of the 108 such tree stems, erected on a hillside in Paro, with the name of the dead person inscribed on it.
