Diode lasers
Edge emitting high power diode (semiconductor) lasers have a wide variety of applications, including optical storage, telecommunications, medical and others. Diode lasers have a dominant market share among all lasers produced. They account for 56% of laser market revenue (2006 data). Edge emitting high power diode lasers produce up to several Watts of optical power. Pictured here are two single stripe diode lasers mounted inside of very basic TO-220 packages.
