Guillaume Francois Rouelle (1703-1770), French 1742 Rouelle was appointed Experimental Demonstrator of Chemistry at the Jardin du Roi, Paris, France. He introduced the modern definition of salts, as the compounds formed by the union of acids and bases. He also distinguished between neutral, acid and basic salts.
