At six oclock A. M. on the 7th, after three hoursrest, the battery moved with the command towardsBottom Bridge, and, about noon, met the cavalry re-turning. The enemy was apparently informed of the moveand the possibility of striking a blow suddenly,silently, irresistibly, was at an end, therefore thecommand retraced its steps. The battery formed apart of the rearguard on the return march. A smallforce of the enemys cavalry followed and was some-what annoying
