They were also invaluable as spies and informers in daysgone by. An interesting history of a Gosaee is to be foundin Sir Bartle Freres Pandoorang Hurree, and MeadowsTaylor often mentions them also. The individuals who distortand contort their limbs and voluntarily undergo incredibletorture are probably half-witted fanatics. An efficient detectivepolice force ought to have several Gosaees in its ranksand in its pay.
