Impetigo. View of the chin and cheeks of an eight month old baby girl showing a blistering rash caused by impetigo. Impetigo is a skin infection which is usually caused by Staphylococci or Streptococci bacteria. It causes fluid-filled blisters to appear on the skin, which burst to leave moist, weeping areas, such as seen on the baby's chin. It spreads rapidly and is highly contagious. It is far more common in children, and occasionally forms small epidemics in schools. Impetigo is treated with antibiotic creams or tablets.
