The city hall (1755) of Tongeren, Belgium
On the 27th February 1737 the city council decided to build a town hall on the ruins of the cloth hall. Two months later, on 26th April 1737, construction began in the presence of the mayors Willem-Abraham Cours en Jacob Grouwels. By the end of 1738 the first and second fixing were almost done, but due to the War of the Austrian Succession (1740–48), the entire project was not finished until 1755. The plans were drawn by Pascal Barbier who was inspired by the town hall of Liège.
