NERVE FIBERS, TEM
A small bundle of non-myelinated nerve fibers (without a myelin sheath). These very small fibers ( to nanometers) (in red) are surrounded by Schwann cells (green). This type of nerve fiber conducts nerve influx much slower than myelinated fibers coated with a myelin sheath. Non-myelinated fibers belong to the sympathetic nervous system devoted to involuntary movement which controls, for example, the diameter of blood vessels.
